Postural Therapy/ Structural Integration

The aim of SI is to realign the body into a better biomechanical position. The belief is if the body is in a better (more neutral) position then it will relieve chronic pain and allow for increased general well being. The work was first developed in the 1930’s by Ida Rolf, a doctate in biochemistry. She believed if you focused on the connective tissue (fascia) of the body therapists could achieve longer lasting results than traditional therapies. She believed a whole body approach was required to achieve . pain free results. To treat the pain is to treat in vain and if you think you know where it is, it ain’t. Her English may not have been the best but she knew her bodywork.

SI uses myofascial release (a type of massage that focuses on connective tissue also known as fascia) to realign the body. Each of the ten sessions has a specific area treated and purpose. Each session builds upon the last with specific homecare to reinforce the purpose of each session. Each session lasts between 45-60 minutes.

The 10 Sessions of Posture Re-alignment called Structural Integration:
• One: Respiration
• Two: Feet
• Three: Lateral Line
• Four: Inner line
• Five: Psoas
• Six: Limbar
• Seven: TMJ (Jaw area and Neck)
• Eight: Pelvis/Hips
• Nine: Shoulders/Neck/Arms
• Ten: Connection or integration of all areas
